Here’s a test I did that didn’t quite go all the way—though it did open some doors! This was for Bienvenue chez Les Jolipré! with Junglle Publishing, and you can check them out here. I sent in an initial sample, and they really liked it, which was exciting. But then they asked if I could do a couple more pages as a follow-up. At the time, I was completely swamped with the second part of Nanits Underground (which you can see here), so I couldn’t commit to more work on Les Jolipré. It was disappointing, but luckily, they found another artist who’s a good friend of mine, and he ended up getting the job!
It was great seeing him succeed, and later, I actually had a chance to help the team finish the project in time for their deadline, which made me feel involved in the end.
Looking back, I sometimes wonder if I’m really a good fit for the European comic market. I’ve had some big publishers follow my work, so I know they’re interested and keeping an eye on what I’m doing. But I think there might be a bit of doubt about my ability to handle traditional bande dessinée style, given my background. This project was more on the cartoonish side, so it was a fun and simple test that felt natural to me, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Here’s the sample page for you to check out—hope you like it as much as I enjoyed making it!
